Letter printed in Sheffield Telegraph, 30 September 1901, recorded in a library remarks book now held at Sheffield Archives. Scan by Nadia Jamaludin.
Another letter, signed "Emeritus", was printed on 7 October in support of the points raised by "Reform". "I invariably find that [a text-book] is 10, 20, or 30 years old. Of course, I refuse it, knowing that with the rapidity with which all scientific subjects move, to read such an old work would be fatal to anyone's advancement.... It is a great mistake that a city like Sheffield should be without first-class text-books on the various technical trades."
