Sarah Dewar wears her sash after winning the title of Miss Book World during National Library Week. Around 400 women from libraries, bookshops and publishing houses entered the beauty contest. Quite what beauty had to do with working with books is a question for its organisers in the '70s, the Association of Assistant Librarians – though they did point out that entrants would be judged "not only for beauty, but also intelligence, confidence and an interest in the work they do."
